Immune Boosting Smoothie

No but seriously, those who have mastered the art of disguising veggies or proteins in their smoothies without compromising their taste are genius!  

You might wonder why someone would opt for veggies, but did you know that smoothies made of fruits and vegetables can help you get lots of fibers while keeping your sugar intake to a minimum? That’s right! But you can even go one step further…

The smoothie we are about to introduce you to is a fantastic way to trick your kids, partner or even yourself into drinking a delicious smoothie, while receiving all the nutrients they usually fuss about… A healthy dessert for breakfast and actual dessert later on in the day the true definition of treating yourself!

THE SMOOTHIE

Still not convinced? Here’s a quick break down of our “Immune Boosting Smoothie” a.k.a the Berry Turmeric Smoothie.

Berries: High in antioxidants, berries help reduce inflammation. The berries recommended for this smoothie are: blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Yogurt: Hello Probiotics!! 

Spinach: Folate, vitamin C and antioxidants. 

Oatmeal: The fiber found in oats can help your body deal with infections!

Ginger: One of the world’s oldest natural remedy ingredient + more antioxidants!

SPOTLIGHT INGREDIENT

Turmeric: Here at Nuzena, we simply can not get over this staple ingredient. Turmeric is a great natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Curcumin, the active ingredient found in turmeric has been said in multiple studies to help provide anti-inflammatory effects and strong antioxidant properties. 

THE RECIPE

Servings: 1 large or 2 small smoothies

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk – or milk of choice
  • 2 cups of baby spinach
  • ½ cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt- or dairy-free yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 ½ cups frozen mixed berries
  • ½ teaspoons ground turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2-3 teaspoons honey- or swap agave or maple syrup

Directions:

Place ingredients in a high-power blender in the order listed. 

  1. Blend until smooth. 
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
